Human Rights in Working Life was Held
The "Duty of Care in Supply Chains and Human Rights in Working Life" training was held as an important event organized by the General Directorate of Labor. This training aimed to raise awareness by analyzing different examples in the world on the protection of fundamental rights in working life and duty of care in supply chains and to gain knowledge about effective policies developed.
The General Directorate of Labor has adapted to the changes and transformations in line with the the necessities of the time and published the national guidelines regarding working life in 2022. These guiding principles have been prepared with the contributions of all relevant stakeholders and serve as an important guide for the protection of fundamental rights in working life.
Issues that have been on the agenda in recent years regarding the duty of care in supply chains around the world and in our country focus on the need to comply with human rights, environment and good management standards. For this reason, legislative studies are carefully monitored to ensure that companies act in accordance with internationally accepted norms.
In addition, the Directorate General of Labor has started working with the aim of becoming a Guide Country in Alliance 8.7 for global cooperation in line with target 8.7 of the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In this context, the Guide Country National Strategic Workshop was held on October 25, 2023, with the participation of prof. Dr. Vedat IŞIKHAN, Minister of Labor and Social Security. The issue of duty of care in supply chains was also prioritized in the Alliance 8.7 guide country road map prepared based on the workshop results.
In this context, a training titled "Duty of Care in Supply Chains and Human Rights in Working Life" was organized by Kezban YAĞCI, who works as an Assistant Professor at San Jose State University in the USA. The training took place on December 22, 2023 at the Reşat Moralı Meeting Hall.
Deputy General Directors of Labor, Heads of Departments, Experts and employees attended the training organized by the General Directorate of Labor. During the training, a presentation accompanied by slides was made by Academician Kezban Yağcı under the title "Duty of Care in Supply Chains and Human Rights in Working Life". In the presentation, important topics such as labor exploitation, child labor and modern slavery in the human struggle were discussed. In addition, topics such as supply chain actors, serious human rights violations in the international supply chain, and the West's fight against human trafficking, especially the USA, were also included in the presentation.
The training program ended with a question-answer session.
