Following the work carried out by the Minimum Wage Determination Commission to determine the new minimum wage figure for 2024, the new minimum wage amount, which will be valid as of January, was announced by Minister of Labor and Social Security Prof. Dr. Vedat Işıkhan at Ministry of Labor and Social Security Reşat Moralı Meeting Hall as 17 thousand 2 TL, with an increase of 49 percent compared to the previous period.

Minister Işıkhan, who announced the minimum wage that will be valid for 2024 at the meeting, shared the following information:

“As you know, in July, the net minimum wage was 11 thousand 402 liras, with the 500 lira minimum wage support provided by our state. Now, we have determined the net minimum wage as 17 thousand 2 lira, which will be valid as of January 1, 2024, of which 700 lira is minimum wage support. I hope it will be beneficial to our country and nation. With this figure, there has been a 49 percent increase in the net minimum wage compared to the previous period and a cumulative increase of 100 percent compared to the previous year. In addition, we have increased the minimum wage by 3 and a half times in real terms since 2002. We are pleased to have once again fulfilled our promise not letting our employees getting crushed by the inflation with the new amount. Our government will continue to stand by its workers, employers and all its citizens with all its institutions and organizations.”

Reminding that the minimum wage, which is a social protection wage, represents the lowest limit of wage policies in working life, Minister Işıkhan said, “The ultimate goal of the Commission is to determine this limit by taking into account the opinions, demands and current socio-economic conditions of all parties. First of all, I would like to thank all stakeholders who carried out this process on a common basis with their positive and reasonable approaches, Mr. Ergün Atalay, President of the Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions Türk-İş, and Mr. Özgür Burak Akkol, President of the Confederation of Turkish Employers' Unions TİSK, and the members of the commission," he said.

“I find it important for the future of our working life to exhibit all kinds of constructive approaches that will contribute to social consensus.”

Stating that the employer and employee parties reached a consensus on the most appropriate point, considering the current conditions of the employees, employers and the country, Işıkhan continued as follows:

“I would especially like to emphasize that, in addition to setting a minimum wage limit, I find it very important for the future of our working life to demonstrate all kinds of constructive approaches that will contribute to social consensus in solving problems. Of course, I would like to express my greatest gratitude to our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who, with his strong will and vision, leads our determination not letting any of our citizens getting crushed by the inflation to and to protect workers, employers and employment at the same time.
